Paths We Walk On

The Paths We Walk On
By: Ashley Storms

Every morning
Every evening
I walk up and down the same old path
And I never really realized that I was walking into the future
With every step I take
I make the world a little different
One thing changes another
One thing changes another’s future
With every grain of sand
On this wide sandy beach
There is a life
With many hopes and dreams
Which has a story to tell
If only you could catch it
For the tide is turning
Though its life may be short
It has a purpose in this world
So when that moment comes around the bend
That magical moment
That could change your life forever
Scoop it up
Scoop up that grain of sand and never let it go
For it is the beginning
The beginning of your new life in this world
This planet
This universe
But it does not take a grain of sand to begin a new life
For it comes in all shapes and sizes
From a gust of wind
To a snowflake falling from the sky
Just make sure that you scoop it up
Catch it
And grab it with all your might
For this is one of those moments
If you do not grab it now
You will never be able to experience the joys that moment could have given you
Like a snowflake when it hits the ground
It is gone forever
Sure there will be more snowflakes falling from the sky
But none will be exactly like that first snowflake that you let pass you by
Like a cool summers breeze
For a second it there
But then it’s gone
So when that moment comes around the bend
Take a chance
For your future life may depend on that exact moment
For who knows when that moment may appear?
Our paths are all different
Some have to deal with the harsh rays of the sun
Beating them down until they feel that they have nothing left
Some cross oceans
Were the waves are strong and there is always another storm to fight
Others have to fight fierce cold winds
Harsh blizzards
And other dangerous tasks beyond imagination
Using all there strength to just to keep going
Sure most of us do not cross deserts
Oceans
Or lands that are nothing but ice
But in a way we all do
We all have dealt with situations
When the problems kept on pilling up on top of us
Until we felt like we just could not go on
But in the end we kept on going
And while we are dealing with the harsh rays of the sun
We are going through our school years
Just as if we are crossing a deep, dark ocean
Which will help show us all the choices that we will ever want to get a hold of
All we have to do is wait for the right opportunity to come
And bite the worm on our hook
And there we will stay until we have crossed this ocean
And into the ocean of frozen ice
There in that land of ice and snow
We will stay until the end of our days
Becoming the kind of people who can help and change people’s lives
More than they were able to in the beginning of there life’s
And in the beginning of everyone’s life
Everything is just a choice
And from that choice is the beginning
Of a whole new life and way to look at the world
But in the end
Even though we may go across different deserts
Oceans
And lands that are nothing but ice
Our paths are still all the same
We are all the same
We are all fighting
No matter how hard the path
We will cross it
After all You and I would not be placed on this path that we are on unless we were made to finish it

The reason why I have my sister poem on here is because of the great accomplishment that she has made. She has been through a lot even though she is only 18. I respect her, in every way and I am grateful to have her with me. Ashley is an awesome sister and poet, some of her poems are published and this is just one of her legacy's. Thank you Ashley for guiding me along my path.
